Compassion, Mercy, and Justice

Our church is active in outreach ministries so that we may, through God's grace:

  • better listen and respond to God's amazing mission in the world.
  • be transformed in our own discipleship and renewed as a congregation in a unique way.
  • holistically serve vulnerable individuals and families
  • witness to a broken and divided world Christ's reconciliation & wholeness.
  • be advocates that shape systems and encourage partnerships toward strategic, sustained ministry.

Join Us!

You're invited to join us in the privilege of serving alongside local and global neighbors in the name of Christ. We are convinced that ministries of compassion, mercy, and justice help us as the body of Christ more fully understand God's call in our lives, even as these ministries can bring healing and reconciliation to a broken world. Be encouraged, refreshed, and renewed as we learn and then get involved together - but we warn you, you might get hooked!
To learn more about how to get involved, check out the “Invited to Help” page (link to the left), read some stories of ministry and check out our prayer requests related to CMJ issues. New and developing programs, including partnerships with other churches, community organizations, and Universities are currently all continuing to grow – come join us!

Upcoming Announcements

  • Everything Must Change Book Tour
    April 11th & 12th

    Tour information:
Faith at Work is excited to sponsor Brian McLaren's Everything Must Change Tour.  This is more than a book tour - it's an invitation to dialogue with others who care about the current issues of today, and consider what action is ours to do. Using presentation, Biblical exegesis, prayer stations, worship, small group discussion, art reflection, and new music, the tour event presents fresh theology for CHANGE. McLaren's newest book, Everything Must Change: Jesus, Global Crises, and a Revolution of Hope, the Tour events, and the Faith at Work follow up events in several cities are all working toward identifying the interlocking crises relating to the planet, poverty, and peace-making, and how Jesus' radical message of the kingdom of God addresses these crises.
We hope to stimulate awareness, deep shifts in thinking, and a commitment to action regarding the pursuit of justice, peace, and environmental sustainability. The feedback from participants on our follow-up survey shows that attendees are enriched in their spiritual journey, identifying areas of life they're ready to make a change in, and gaining clarity on their own calling.

Here are some of their comments:
"The combination of multimedia using art, music and interactive prayer stations could not help but touch people in a deep way, and it did that for me."
"...A radical call to re-think and re-do and re-organize everything. The next step is for me to find friends for the journey."
"This is an event that offers rich theological paradigms and a network of peers to support you in making gentle change both in yourself and in the communities of which you are a member."
"Coming into the conference I was looking for some support in living into my call to social justice in Jesus' name. I was propelled through my preconceived notions and into a deeper understanding of how I am called to serve Christ.

Why We Do Outreach

First Covenant Seattle has a history of being actively involved in ministry with both our local and global communities. Our congregation engages in ministries of compassion, mercy and justice as we grow toward being kingdom people who live out the Great Commandment - loving God and loving our neighbors, especially our most vulnerable neighbors. The biblical texts are clear; God asks that the church be a witness to God's concern for the "widow, orphan, and alien," for poor and oppressed people in our world. The church is to "do justice, love mercy and walk humbly" with God. We do this not out of guilt, political correctness, or for our own benefit, but because we follow in the footsteps of Jesus and we're learning together how to worship Him with our whole lives.
