Your Child Matters to God

There is no greater gift from God than a child. Jesus underscored this conviction when the disciples tried to keep children at arms length and Jesus rebuked them saying, "let the children come to me, and do not stop them: for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs."
Luke 18:16 NRSV

At First Covenant Church we recognize the importance of children and welcome them to be part of our larger community of faith. While adults are often the teachers of children, anyone who has ever had a child knows that children have a great deal to teach adults about simple faith, trust, and dependence upon God. When you think about it, whether we are four months, four years, forty years old or older, we are all children of God, and He wants us to know and experience His love in the context of the family of faith.

Our Mission:

To help lead children to faith and then growth in Christ by creating an environment which stimulates and supports the guiding, nurturing efforts of parents, teachers and the church family in their relationships with children.

  • We can reinforce the things which are being learned at home, realizing that for some children we will be the primary source of spiritual support.
  • We can do together as families what we cannot do alone, like large group worship and being involved in "Faith Families" during "Tool Time."

We believe children are very important to God; therefore, we are dedicated to providing a ministry of excellence for them. It is our desire to communicate the love of God to them by:

  • providing a safe, accepting environment where children feel loved and valued.
  • being a partner with you in the Christian nurture of your daughter or son.
  • reaching out to your child in God's love and teaching them truth.

Our Goals are to help each child:

  • Realize they are loved by God and Jesus and return that love.
  • Think of the church as their extended family and find in it a primary peer group and positive role models.
  • GROW in Bible knowledge and in the application of that knowledge to develop Christian values and a Christian lifestyle.
  • Participate in meaningful worship, prayer and study to build and GROW in their relationship with God.
  • Mature with a positive self image and an appreciation for God's gifts to His children.
  • Desire to be and become a responsible steward of their life and to make serving and sharing a natural part of life.

Safeguarding Our Children

We have adopted a Child Protection Policy for preventing the possibility of child abuse within our programs. Teachers, helpers, childcare and youth workers all undergo a thorough screening process before becoming a part of the staff, including background and reference checks.
